Help categorize the TRS-80 software archive

Nearly 30,000 programs, and almost none of them say what kind of program they are. Mark whatever you recognize. Pick as many words as fit — a game that teaches arithmetic is Game, Math, Education — then send the page. Everything is reviewed by hand before it goes anywhere near the archive, so a best guess is worth more than a blank.

Important Note: Do not do multiple entries of the same program. If you flag Super Nova by Big Five once, all Super Nova by Big Five entries will get updated. No need to waste your time flagging each Super Nova

WELCOME U.S.A. $9.95 TRS-80 Level 2 16K BASIC by Bill Presby 'Welcome U.S.A.' is educational and fun to use, it contains a brief, but informative description of each of the fifty states. To inquire about a state simply type in the state name when the program asks for it. If you do not know how to spell the state name, enter the word 'SPELL' and all 50 states will be displayed in alphabetical order to assist you. A challenging true-false quiz is included. The quiz consists of five random questions with random contents for each question. Points are earned for each correct answer and incorrect answers are noted. If all five questions are answered correctly, a bonus question is displayed. Bonus questions earn higher point values and each time a bonus question is answered correctly, the bonus points are increased for subsequent bonus questions. You may take as many quizzes as you want without restarting the program. Total questions taken, questions correct, accuracy percentage, and total points earned are accumulated and displayed at the end of each quiz. Have fun and learn.

Western Civilization: Ancient World and Middle AgesMISSING

Opportunities For Learning Catalog

WESTERN CIVILIZATION World history topics become more interesting with this set of three game-like testing programs. Ancient World & Middle Ages is a mountain-climbing game that tests the student's knowledge of Ancient Greece, Rome, and medieval Europe. In Reformation to Nationalism, students assemble a rocket ship to escape from a planet by correctly answering questions. Twentieth Century, for two players, culminates in a 'snowball fight'; whichever player has the most correct answers will get most of the 'snowballs.' A back-up disk and Teacher Lesson Planner are included in this program for grades 7 to 10. Available on disk for the Apple II with 48K, the TRS-80 with 32K, and the Commodore 64 with 64K. 3X-6861TD Western Civilization (TRS-80) $89.00

PowerSoft has a complete line of Hard Disk Driver packages that offer much greater flexibility over the standard drivers supplied by Tandy or other hard drive manufacturers. They allow you to split up your hard drive into partitions of differing sizes, and also allow you to define granule sizes and other optimizing operating characteristics to achieve the maximum from your drive. At the same time, the driver routines themselves, once relocated, are very small - usually less than 256 bytes. All of our driver packages include a self-relocating driver program, a hard disk formatter which works in concert with the standard FORMAT utility, and a hard disk verifier for mapping and locking out media errors.
WD SERIES I Drivers are for non-Tandy hard drives using the WD-1000 controller board. They support 5, 10, 15, 20, or 30/35 megabyte drives on Model I, III, or Model 4, yet use less than 256 bytes of memory. Direct hard drive booting is NOT supported. The WD Series I drivers may be used on hard drives from Percom (Aerocomp), MTI, Compukit, Micro-Design, Level 4, Prometheus, and others utilizing a Western Digital-1000 controller board. Supports both Mod III and Mod 4 systems on the same drive.

DEMO II The company that brings you more programs for the dollar is proud to offer Demo II, an extraordinary package that contains programs to suit your every mood: . Tic-Tac-Toe - Fun for the whole family! You all know the rules, and this version gives you three different levels of difficulty, one of which is sure to suit everyone in the family. Time Trials - You won't have to leave your house to experience 'pre-race' excitement. It's you against the clock as you maneuver your car through the curves, chutes, and chicanes of the computerized course. Maze - Somewhere within a ponderous maze, the secret home square waits for you to uncover its presence. If you're not alone, your computer will be happy to offer a two-player version so that you can both race to uncover your respective squares first! Amazing. Hangman - How many people have grown up playing different versions of that old grade school standby, hangman? If you've never played the game on a computer, you're in for a special treat! You or the computer will supply the word. With each wrong guess, the poor hangman's figure grows - and only you can spare him! Wheel of Fortune - 'There's one born every minute,' or so goes the old saw. In this simulation of the carnival wheel of fortune, you have your choice of the regular or the 'crooked' version, where you can't help but win. The casino will even give you the keys to the place! Hurricane - OK, all you disaster buffs, here's a program that will let you chart the path of oncoming hurricanes anywhere in the world, using data available from the National Weather Service. Bugsy - Sure, everybody talks about computer bugs, but how many people have ever seen one? It's you against the computer in this game, with the computer rolling the dice, to see which one gets to add another part to his Z-80 Bug. The first one to complete his 'curse of computing' wins. Horse Race - It isn't every day you get to see a horse race at least not until now! Up to 100 bettors can cheer their horses to the finish line with their choice of win, place, or show. For the TRS-80 Level II 16K. Order No. 0049R $7.95. Instant Software Inc. Dept. 70B0 Peterborough, N.H. 03458 USA

ASP Software

FEELING ADVENTUROUS? ASP Software Adventure Series 1 THE WHITE BARROWS Program approximately 8K Somewhere amid this maze of burial chambers lurks an Evil Sorcerer whom you need to trap. Trouble is, he's protected by Trolls, Dwarves, Serpents and the occasional Dragon or two! Your magic staff will block the tunnel to prevent him escaping unless, that is, he outwits you. A real brain twister, White Barrows requires both brains and brawn from its players. It's no good just hacking your way through the Barrows and hoping to fall over the Sorcerer. Eventually you'll meet a Dragon, and they don't hack easily! You'll need all your strength and cunning to survive this one for long. THE WHITE BARROWS Only 6.50 all inclusive! CONQUERING EVEREST Program approximately 11K You are in charge of an expedition comprising 18 climbers, 34 Sherpas and 40 Porters. WiBASICMISSING

Lou Witt / Wittsoft

WIBASIC Written by Lou Witt Distributed by WittSoft Another fine BASIC compiler from WittSoft. As with VIVACE!, programs compiled using WIBASIC may be freely distributed without royalty payments provided that the conditions given in the program documentation are observed. WIBASIC is an integer compiler, which means it cannot handle floating-point numbers (numbers with a fractional part, such as 123.45). However, unlike the code created by VIVACE!, the compiled code created by WIBASIC will run under ANY Model I or III compatible operating system (it will run on the 4 or 4P in the Model III mode). If you are trying to compile an existing BASIC program, you will most likely have to make some changes to it before it can be correctly compiled by WIBASIC. However, creating and editing programs under WIBASIC is made easy by a special 'memory compile' feature that compiles the program in memory (WITHOUT destroying the source code, as most other compilers do), then (if there were no compilation errors) executes the program and returns to WIBASIC at the end. Creating or debugging a program under WIBASIC is as easy as under regular interpretive BASIC, and programs compiled with WIBASIC will (in most cases) execute considerably faster than similar programs compiled with VIVACE! Once the program is fully debugged, it may be compiled to disk or tape. Several enhancements to the regular TRS-80 BASIC are included with the package, along with a demo program. WIBASIC includes an excellent 15 chapter users manual that includes documentation for the 'library' and useful routines that you can use to enhance your own programming. Support is also provided for designing 'overlays', program modules that can help tiny Z80s perform like the 16 bit machines. 'Hybrid' programming, that is, programs that are a combination of Z80 and BASIC code, is also supported. You get all of this for the low, low price of only $49.95.

Win21 Blackjack [Profit Risk Place Your Bets]

Phil Pilgrim / Discovery Bay Software Co

M1 · 1979 · BAS

win21bpp.zip

BLACKJACK WIN21 By Phil Pilgrim from Discovery Bay While it can be used just for fun, WIN21 is designed as a serious learning tool. It lets you define the number of decks (up to four), how many hands you will play, the number of computer-played hands on either side of you, and the basic 'house rules.' The strength of the program lies in your ability to exercise various options for betting, counting, and playing: You can let the computer do some of the functions while you work on others; the computer can instruct you in some or all of the functions; it can just point out errors in your play; or it will leave you alone (but will score you based on how you bet and play). The only weaknesses are in not allowing six decks (a common casino practice), and in not supporting 'surrender' (an occasionally useful, but sophisticated option). The package includes Dr. E. Thorp's book, 'Beat the Dealer,' which is a little dated but still quite valid. If you are willing to practise, the program can teach you to be an excellent player. 16K Tape $29.95
