Nearly 30,000 programs, and almost none of them say what kind of program they are. Mark whatever you recognize. Pick as many words as fit — a game that teaches arithmetic is Game, Math, Education — then send the page. Everything is reviewed by hand before it goes anywhere near the archive, so a best guess is worth more than a blank.

Vivace! Compiler v3.1

VIVACE! Written by Lou Witt Distributed by WittSoft VIVACE! Is the newest BASIC compiler by Wittsoft, a leader in compilers for the TRS-80. In layman's terms, a compiler is a program that converts programs written in BASIC to machine language. This not only makes them run faster, but offers a degree of protection, because the compiled program cannot be LISTed in the normal manner. Most compilers dictate that you rewrite your BASIC program (sometimes extensively) before you compile it. Not VIVACE! It will take any BASIC program that will run under regular BASIC and make it run faster. The advantage of VIVACE! is that you usually do not have to change so much as a single line of your BASIC program before you compile it. Programs compiled with VIVACE! may be freely distributed without further payment of royalties provided that certain conditions are met (these are explained in the documentation). VIVACE! currently comes in two versions: One works with TRSDOS 6.x and Model 4 BASIC, while the other works with TRSDOS 1.3 and Model III BASIC. Both versions sell for $49.95. Consideration for supporting other TRS-80 operating systems will depend entirely on profitability of supporting the current two systems.

The genesis of an idea often takes time, but seems so obvious once it materializes. So it was with synthesizing voice on the Model I. Software-only voice output has appeared occasionally over the past year, but with vocabularies limited to the words provided in the programs. On the other hand, hardware devices (even at $100 or so) were costly for something merely experimental. There had to be a software solution.

VPM Math Pak ($69.95) is for the Z80 Assembly-language programmer who wants to incorporate floating point variable-precision math routines. It includes routines to convert ASCII strings to binary floating point storage and vice versa, a binary floating point numeric comparison, a 255-string comparison, binary to integer conversion, and binary to fraction conversion. The math is accurate to 37 decimal digits and accommodates a 16-byte mantissa. The code is fully commented. With Electrofont ($99.95), LPRINT statements, and an Epson or Prowriter printer you can print out electronic circuit schematics from a library of common circuits on disk. You can add to the symbol set and create custom circuit designs. A special version of Electrofont prints alphabet fonts from the Lazy Writer word processor.

VRHARD Hard Disk Driver by Roy Soltoff This package provides driver support for the HARD DISK III type of hard drive manufactured by the V R Data Corporation and using the hard disk controller manufactured by the XEBEC corporation. The VRHARD package provides for the operation with LDOS 5.x or LDOS/TRSDOS 6.x of one or two IDENTICAL hard drives [i.e. two 5 meg, two 10 meg, etc.]. The driver supports partitioning of the hard drive media by both number of heads and number of cylinders. Up to eight heads and up to 999 cylinders are supported. The driver initializer is very friendly and virtually failsafe in inhibiting you from making conflicting partitioning requests during the partitioning operation. The driver supports both the fixed media and removable cartridge media type drives. Your configuration of two drives may be mixed as to type. The package includes MOVEFILE, a large file segmentation backup utility. This machine-language program gives you the capability of making backups up the large file by segmenting it into floppy-sized sub-files. MOVEFILE also provides for the restoral of the large file from the sub-files.
