Help categorize the TRS-80 software archive

Nearly 30,000 programs, and almost none of them say what kind of program they are. Mark whatever you recognize. Pick as many words as fit — a game that teaches arithmetic is Game, Math, Education — then send the page. Everything is reviewed by hand before it goes anywhere near the archive, so a best guess is worth more than a blank.

Important Note: Do not do multiple entries of the same program. If you flag Super Nova by Big Five once, all Super Nova by Big Five entries will get updated. No need to waste your time flagging each Super Nova

Terminal-80MISSING

Instant Software

Terminal-80 The Terminal-80 package lets your TRS-80 communicate with the rest of the world. These programs give you control of the RS-232 port of your Expansion Interface. You can connect one or more serial terminals to your TRS-80. Your computer will accept input from the RS-232 port just as if it were entered from the keyboard. Thus, you can use your computer from a remote terminal without having to move your equipment. The TRS-80 can also be transformed into a 'dumb' terminal. You can use it in a time-sharing situation to talk to 'big' computers via a modem. All data that you type in will go out through the RS-232 port and all incoming data will be displayed on the screen. You can transfer programs over the phone lines. Just load a program into the TRS-80. The LPRINT/LLIST command will transfer the program to a receiving computer via the RS-232 port. Using the upper/lowercase modification of the TRS-80 is simplified. (You must have the modification kit installed first or follow the detailed instructions included in this package.) Control characters in Level II and Disk BASIC will be properly displayed and all functions such as CHR$ will work correctly. This package even includes a BASIC program to set the baud rate. You won't have to tear apart your Expansion Interface if you use more than one configuration. There are thousands of TRS-80 computers in the world. Let's get together and talk to each other-with the Terminal-80 from Instant Software. This package requires the following minimum system: . A TRS-80 with 16K of memory. An Expansion Interface. An RS-232 Serial Interface (e.g., Radio Shack's No. 26-1145 or the equivalent). An optional upper/lowercase modification kit. Order No.0130R (cassette-based) $24.95. Test BankMISSING

TEST BANK If you find preparing exams to be a chore, then THE TEST BANK is sure to make the grade! This sophisticated exam preparation program can produce tests in a fraction of the time and with fewer errors than one could possibly do by hand. Using simple one-key commands, an instructor can develop tests in any desired format; a built-in word-processor then takes over for efficient entry of test questions. All questions are stored in test 'banks' and can be recalled and reassembled at any time quickly and easily. Among the system's features are the ability to search for questions by keywords, phrases, subject areas, difficulty levels, or other teacher-defined categories; grouping of questions by type, such as essay, multiple choice, etc., with automatic renumbering; random order changing to provide several versions of the same test; merging of items from several banks to produce a composite exam; plus many other useful options. Designed for the TRS-80 with 32K and disk, THE TEST BANK takes full advantage of the microcomputer's many capabilities in a user-friendly and easy-to-operate package. CLASSROOM COMPUTER NEWS gave the TEST BANK 'a four-star recommendation.' 4J-100TD The Test Bank $199.00

Two for Education Gamco Industries Inc. has released two programs for the Model III and 4 that should help in the classroom. Test Generator lets teachers enter up to 500 questions and then use them to design tests. Questions can be fill in the blank, matching, multiple choice, true/false, and short answer/essay. You can enter them according to classifications such as chapter, skill, or subject. To design a test, you can choose specific questions or ask the computer to randomly select them. You can mix question types and classifications, and you can edit and print tests and questions. Test Generator sells for $49.95, or $64.95 with back-up disk. Main Idea Gold Rush is a two-player adventure game that provides drill in determining the main idea of a paragraph. It simulates a journey west during the Gold Rush; players move by correctly identifying the main idea of a paragraph they are given to read. The first player to reach San Francisco wins. The program also includes a student-management system that records student names, raw scores, and the percentage correct. The system holds up to 200 student files in alphabetical order. There are two versions of the game: one written at the third- and fourth-grade level, and one for the fifth- and sixth-grades. Either version sells for $39.95, or $54.95 with back-up disk. A class pack or Network III/4 version costs $164.95. Contact Gamco Industries Inc., Box 1911, Big Spring, TX 79721, 800-351-1404 (in Texas, call 915-267-6327 collect).

Texpro Word Processor [M1]MISSING

Molimerx Ltd

M1

TEXPRO A TEXT/WORD PROCESSOR PROGRAM FOR TAPE There is a fairly restricted market for a word processor for tape users of 16k up. It is very difficult to write a good word processor or even a good text editor which will fit into 16k and can support only tape storage. TEXPRO has been developed to be compatible with 16k, 32k, and 48k machines. It is designed for an operator who used a word processor on an irregular basis, yet incorporates a number of features that one would expect to see on its bigger brethren. For one, TEXPRO incorporates its own lower case together with its own video and keyboard drivers. In this respect it is able to add some special characters, for instance, left and right brace brackets are available together with a vertical divider. All parallel printers are supported, while it remains possible for the user to protect high memory for the location of a serial driver. TEXPRO is essentially a menu driven program and 11 functions are available as follows: . Input - this supplies normal typing facilities . Edit - this command permits the insertion or deletion of lines. The cursor is controlled by the four arrow keys. Display - permits the user to review the text on the screen with downwards scrolling being controlled by the down arrow. File - stores the current text on disk. Retrieve - the opposite of the above, loads text from cassette. Merge - to rearrange the text in lines of reasonable uniform length. Of particular use after insertion . Tidy - right justify the text. Justification occurs by the insertion of spaces. Print - sends the current print to the line printer. Combine - this retrieves the sequence of segments which have been filed in order on tape and prints them out as one document. This is a particularly useful command for 16k owners. Set - alters the parameters which control some of the other commands and also the tab settings. Verify - for use with upper case only. Indicates which letters are capitals To explain these commands in a little more detail: Input will call the last line of the existing text to the top of the screen. In this mode the Clear key acts as a repeat key and a shift left arrow will delete the entire line. The right arrow functions as a tab key, while Enter causes the line to be store in memory. The Edit function gives access to the text already typed. In this mode the line being edited is marked by an arrow pointing towards it from the right. The three previous and three following lines are shown above and below respectively with double line spacing. A message is displayed indicating the line number being edited. Text can be inserted using the shifted left arrow, furthermore, entire lines may be inserted or deleted. The Merge function arranges the text in lines which are within a specified range of lengths. The option of hyphenate is given from within this command. The Combine command works essentially the same as the Print command, except that it prints text as read from tape rather than from memory. The Set command enables the following settings to be changed: maximum characters per line, lines per page, page length, print margin, standard paragraph insert, tab positions, hyphenation and a print option for normal, small, and heavy type (depending on your line printer). The program we supply is in three versions: one for upper case, the other for lower case, and the third for users of the TRS-80 Model 3. Please by sure to mention which version you require. Text Editor I [Letter Writer]MISSING

Dynacomp

TEXT EDITOR I (LETTER WRITER) TEXT EDITOR I is an easy to use line-oriented text editor which is ideally suited for writing letters, though it has been used to compose a book and several magazine articles. It is certainly one of the lowest priced text editors available today! The program is written entirely in BASIC, therefore making it compatible with the input/output of your present system. Files may be built by simply typing in text. Immediate typing errors may be removed using the delete or back-arrow function already available in your BASIC interpreter. Errors may also be removed in a later editing phase. The format of the output is controlled in several ways. You may insert in your test a visible (in the editing mode) control character which causes a carriage return/line feed when printing the final copy. This control character, coupled with spaces, can be easily used to create paragraph indentations, skips, etc. The final copy may be sent to an external terminal and printed out with a maximum line width determined by the user. TEXT EDITOR I will ensure that no words are broken and that the text looks just as if a professional typist did the job! TEXT EDITOR I is currently available on a 5 1/4 inch diskette for North Star BASIC systems (Release 3 and higher). It is also available on cassette for Pet, Atari, Apple II, and TRS-80 cassette and disk systems (two programs are provided on each cassette; one for cassette-based systems, and one for machines having disks). Price: $14.95 Cassette $18.95 Diskette $21.45 8 inch CP/M MBASIC Disk
