Help categorize the TRS-80 software archive

Nearly 30,000 programs, and almost none of them say what kind of program they are. Mark whatever you recognize. Pick as many words as fit — a game that teaches arithmetic is Game, Math, Education — then send the page. Everything is reviewed by hand before it goes anywhere near the archive, so a best guess is worth more than a blank.

Important Note: Do not do multiple entries of the same program. If you flag Super Nova by Big Five once, all Super Nova by Big Five entries will get updated. No need to waste your time flagging each Super Nova

Magic Trilogy Part 1: Fairytale AdventureMISSING

Keith Campbell

M1

Magic Trilogy A SERIES OF THREE ADVENTURES WRITTEN IN BASIC AND RECOMMENDED FOR YOUNG CHILDREN When one comes to think of it there is no reason why an Adventure should not be written in Basic. Some of the earlier one were, but they were not particularly good. However, that was before the microcomputer machine language Adventures became available, which, as we all know, created something of standard in the industry. We elected to publish this Trilogy of Basic Adventures as they follow the structure of many of the machine language Adventures currently on the market. There are really only two objections to a Basic Adventure. The first is a question of speed and the second of security, not in the sense of copying, but in the sense of being able to cheat by listing the program and looking at the strings. At any rate, in each of these Basic Adventures, the speed problem is pretty well overcome. It is certainly true to say that there is some delay after an instruction is entered and the computer complies. However, we feel that this does not serious detract from the enjoyment of the game. The author Ken Campbell, has overcome the second point by disabling the Break key at the beginning of the game and enabling it at the end. Obviously, this can be overcome by a knowledgeable user, but at least it will go some way to stopping an unscrupulous player from getting a listing whilst the game is in play. FAIRYTALE ADVENTURE This is the first in the Trilogy and is aimed at family participation. It's theme is fairy stories and nursery rhymes that all interconnect to provide 'souvenir' treasures from the stores. We have found that these stories have a 'captivating' effect on young children, whilst the parents will probably be required to provide vocabulary and perhaps 'adventure experience' in solving some the the problems. The game has thirty-six locations and over thirty moveable objects. The player will have to travel through secret passages, grottos, waterfalls, caves, candy houses and many other interesting locations. Memory Requirement 16k TRS-80 Tape Model 1 & 3 11-1904 WONDERLAND ADVENTURE - PART TWO IN THE TRILOGY WONDERLAND ADVENTURE follows FAIRYTALE in content in that it is aimed at family participation. Again, fairytales and nursery rhythms are used, indeed about 10 stories or rhymes are referenced, together with Mickey Mouse, Tom and Jerry, and so on. While some people may carry an inbuilt discrimination against fairytales and wonderlands, we suggest you attempt them. They are surprisingly good fun. After all, it isn't very often that you get the chance of playing croquet with flamingo on a computer! Memory Requirement 16k TRS-80 Tape Model 1 & 3 11-1908 DREAMWORLD - PART THREE OF THE TRILOGY DREAMWORLD is based on the following stores and rhymes: Oliver Twist, Wizard of Oz, Christmas Carol, Peter Pan, Jack and Jill, Ding Dong Bell, Old King Cole and Little Jack Horner, with, as the author says, a guest appearance from Santa Claus. The network of the game comprises a real world and a fantasy world. It is possible to sleep and dream when in bed and subsequent dreams land the player in different locations and open up successive sections of the work previously inaccessible. The player can move from dream to real world, but not vice-versa, quite often fantasy becomes confused with reality. The command WAKE always terminates a dream and returns the player to his bed. There are 12 treasures in DREAMWORLD and about 35 locations. Although it would be foolish to pretend that these programs do not have more appeal to children than to adults, it is equally fair to say that the adults that we have seen playing it seem to thoroughly enjoy a fleeting trip down memory lane. MALLING LIST SYSTEM $119.95 FOR TRS-80 (Tandy Trademark) Model I and III WHAT SETS OUR SYSTEM APART? Our system is configured specifically for large mailing lists (or small) on floppy disk drives. Some other major systems run on floppies but are really intended for use on hard disk drives. Such a system assumes that you have vast amounts of on line disk storage capacity, the continuity of the data is limited to what you can have on line at one time. To get the real benefit of such a system, one usually has to purchase expanded track/density floppy disk drives and even then the problem occurs when all the drives are filled with data. We have neatly solved this problem by allowing all your data disks to be maintained in continuous order, even though, due to the limitations of your drives, the list may be too large to all be 'on line' at one time. Thus our system accommodates extremely large lists using your existing drives and yet avoids the 'segmented' data problems of the hard disk approach. While it is fashionable to advertise all machine-code systems, our system is primarily written in BASIC, with embedded machine code for the speed sensitive areas. What this means is that our system is easy to modify, yet extremely fast. This is very important since many users like to have custom modifications made (either by them or us) so as to fit some unique requirement. Our manual has a section devoted exclusively to such modifications. Remember all machine-code systems are extremely difficult to modify. Continuity of the ordered data (even data spanning many disks) is not limited to a 'session', but is permanent. Optional: 'backing up' of your data an etoqa is an integral part of the system and is not restricted to the end of a session. This is true even for deletions. The length of our data fields are more than adequate to accommodate even your longest names/addresses. Adjusts to a 32x memory although full use is made of a 48K memory. Can be used with any DOS including TRSDOS. The program disk does not have to stay on line, thus freeing more space for data storage. Load and scroll through entire entries or selected fields. Edit as you scroll or go directly (takes about 2 sec.) to a specific entry and edit or delete. Our automatic repeat feature allows often used names/addresses to be entered with a single key stroke. Each disk entry, optionally, 'remember,' how many mailings have been made for that particular entry. Can be tied in with suggestions. Continuing expert support just a phone call away. You will be able to discuss your problems/modifications with the authors. Money back guarantee if not fully satisfied! ADDITIONAL FEATURES: . Simple to use, even for the novice, menu oriented. Permits 2260 names 'on-line' with 40 track double density (e.g. you will almost 5000 names with 80 track drives). The older 35 single density drives permit 1025 online entries, made possible with our unique data compression techniques. Super Fast sort by alph, or zip order (8 sec. for 1000 entries). Both orders can exist simultaneously on disk. High speed recovery of entries from disk, speed of sort is meaningless if retrieval from disk is slow. Ours pulls in over 11 per sec! Master list printout of your list in several formats (not just a match of labels), extremely useful. Zip order is 'sub-alphabetized'. Less than 5 digit zips have leading 0's appended. Supports 9 digit zips, Canadian zips, and foreign abbrev. Optional second address line. Optional reversal of names about commas. This permits disk storage in last name first order to facilitate meaningful ordering while the printout will be in 'natural' order. Permits telephone, account, and/or serial numbers, etc. Prints on envelopes or labels 1, 2, 3 or 4 across. Can print individual labels at time of creation or editing. Test label/envelope printing allows you to make vertical and horizontal adjustments with ease. Transfers old files to our system. Selective printout by specific zips or zip ranges. Plenty of user defined fields with provisions for simultaneously purging and/or selecting the printout, even allows for inequalities. Powerful and easy to use. Editing is simply and fast direct access or automatic search. Batch transfer or edited entries to backup disks. Equally provides for duplicate labels. Deleted entries have 'holes' on disk filled automatically and alph. order is still maintained! All labels optionally support an 'Attn.' line with provisions for multiple entries. This permits mail to be sent to several people at given addresses, conserves disk space. All 0's are replaced by easier to read 0's in addresses. Continuous display of number of label/envelopes printed. Extensive use of error traps, even recovers from a power failure during a printout. Extensive assortment of extra cost options for customized master list printout (in addition to the standard one mentioned above), transfer of entries between disks, summary reports, and 'publishers'; type multiple list label printouts. Hardware requirements, 32K, printer, and 1 or 2 drives. Mailing List System Form Letter Football-Scout Super Calendars Model I or III? Total/Jack/Unit for Shipping & Handling Check C.O.D. 'MAILLIST' A MAILING LIST DATABASE SYSTEM for the TRS-80 Models I, II, and III MAILLIST is ideally suited for organization mailing lists, personal addressbook functions, or mail lists based on dates such as reminders for birthdates or dues payable. MAILLIST uses an ISAM-based file system to minimize disk access times. A database consists of a master file, and up to four index files. This allows the primary file to be maintained in sorted order by name, zipcode, and up to two dates. File access for update/delete functions is by name. Duplicate last names are automatically handled by the system. The ZIPCODE and DATE files reference the master file for data. The DATEs significance is specified by the user. MAILLIST allows up to 30 attributes to be specified. These attributes are referenced symbolically and are defined by the user. They are used in record selection when generating reports or mailing labels. MAILLIST supports 9-digit zipcodes and 3-digit state codes. Reports and labels may be ordered by NAME, ZIP, DATE1, or DATE2. Printing may be started or ended at any point in the list. Records are selected by attribute combinations specified when the report is requested. A mask and value selection mechanism permits database query access. MAILLIST capacity is 600 names for Model I, 1200 names for Model III, more than 3500 names for Model II, and more than 38000 names for a Model II with the RACET Hard/Soft Disk System.
