Help categorize the TRS-80 software archive

Nearly 30,000 programs, and almost none of them say what kind of program they are. Mark whatever you recognize. Pick as many words as fit — a game that teaches arithmetic is Game, Math, Education — then send the page. Everything is reviewed by hand before it goes anywhere near the archive, so a best guess is worth more than a blank.

Important Note: Do not do multiple entries of the same program. If you flag Super Nova by Big Five once, all Super Nova by Big Five entries will get updated. No need to waste your time flagging each Super Nova

Monte's SELECT Disk #C901 MEX - The Modem Executive There are a lot of modem programs in the public domain. This is the best one that we've found. On this disk we give you the MEX program (sorry, no source), a user's manual, an online help file, and the source code for the file that we used to tailor it to the Model 4/4P/4D. You'll need NSWEEP for the text files, which had to be squeezed so we could make everything fit.

mod80321.zip

NEWS FLASH: The SMARTEST of all Terminal Packages is also the LEAST EXPENSIVE !!!!! Attention wise shoppers! Looking for the most features and capabilities per dollar? Then add Modem 80 to your list for comparison. Dollar for dollar, byte for byte, Modem 80 will work its way to the top of your list! The Modem 80 package contains seven programs to meet all of your needs. MODEM80/CMD is the main terminal and file transfer program. HOST1 permits remote control of the computer. A file transfer utility called XMODEM is included. SAVE permits off-line text preparation. TEXTFIX is a program to clean up text files so they'll load into a word processor; it removes extra line-feeds, control characters, etc. HEX is the program to convert binary files to ASCII hex characters, and the reverse. These seven programs (collectively, 'Modem 80 Communications Pack', feature all of the capabilities of programs currently costing up to $200. COMPARE: does the competitive program limit file-receiving and transmitting to the amount of available MEM? COMPARE: does the competitive program include a file to 'clean up' messy transmissions? COMPARE: does the competitive program permit single line transmissions, for computers not able to accept full-speed data? COMPARE: are you able to execute, from within the program, DOS commands? Does the competitive program support ALL the popular DOSes (including CP/M)? COMPARE!! The Modem 80 Communications Pack contains all these features, and plenty more. It's wise to shop around before making a decision, especially when it's possible to save over $100! To make it easy for you, purchase the Modem 80 User's Guide for $5.00. Compare features and prices. When you've made a decision, the $5 will be applicable towards the purchase price. Modem 80 sells for $39.95. The User's Guide is in a sturdy notebook for easy storage and reference. Modem 80 is compatible on either I or III, and with your favorite OS. Requires 32K Disk System.

MODEM80 Written by Leslie Mikesell Documentation by Leslie Mikesell Modem80 is a 'smart' terminal program and more - it's a telecommunications package designed to allow data transfer with a wide variety of micros, mainframes, and assorted online services. Modem80 has found very wide acceptance from TRS-80 users all over the country. One reason for this is that Modem-80 is capable of uploading and downloading files of unlimited length - you are not limited by the size of a 'capture buffer', as with most of the other currently-available terminal programs! Text files to be uploaded can be prepared off-line, thus reducing costly online time and permitting you to use your word processor to create your document. Such files can be easily retransmitted as often as necessary in case poor line conditions make transmission difficult. Both transmit and receive files may be opened before communication begins, may be run simultaneously, and can be turned on or off independently. Control codes can allow the distant computer to control file operations. Single lines may be transmitted from a file, intermixed with typing from the keyboard. Lines from a text file may be transmitted one at a time if the distant computer is unable to accept full speed transmission. DOS commands and programs that reside in the lower 16K of memory may be executed while maintaining positions in the transmit and receive files, with previous screen contents restored when the DOS command is completed. Modem80 permits flexible, error-free file transfers between TRS-80s, or between a TRS-80 and any other computer that can use the protocol of the CP/M program 'Modem' (available on CP/M user group disk #25). This Model I/III DOS-compatible $39.95 program has been favorably reviewed in many major computer magazines. Model 4 version, $79.95.

The Alternate Source

M13 · DMK

modb30ta.zip

MODEM 80 Communications Package Abilities: . Remote operation of a TRS-80 Model I or III from a terminal or a second TRS-80 through a telephone link -- files may be transferred with the unattended computer. Error free file transfers with another TRS-80 or a computer that can use the protocol of the CP/M program 'Modem' which is widely used on computer bulletin boards (and available on CP/M user group disk number 25). File transfers with many other types of computers with the TRS-80 acting as a terminal. The program is set up for use with MicroNET, the Source, Forum 80's and similar systems, but the communication parameters, character set, and control characters may be redefined to operate with many other computers. Advantages: . Files of unlimited length may be handled, even in a 32K system. With the 'XMODEM/CMD' file transfer utility, files may be transferred with a 16K computer. Files may be prepared off-line, taking advantage of your word processing program, or the included program 'SAVE/CMD'. Should a first attempt at transmission fail, your file is still safely on your disk & available for a second try. Transmit and receive files may be opened before communication begins, and may be turned on and off independently. In a specialized application, one file may be transmitted while a different file is simultaneously being received. Control codes may be used to allow the remote computer to control the file operations. A single line may be sent from the file, allowing sending from the file to be intermixed with typing from the keyboard. This allows a more flexible response to prompts from the remote computer, and permits transmitting data to a computer that cannot accept full speed transmission and does not use control codes to start and stop the file transmission. DOS commands and programs which execute in the lower 16K of memory may be executed while maintaining positions in the transmit and receive files. The previous screen contents are restored upon completion of the DOS command. MODEM 80 is compatible with ALL popular operating systems including LDOS, Newdos/80 (even version 2.0), DOSPLUS, TRSDOS and ULTRADOS. MODEM 80 requires one disk drive and 32K MODEM 80 is supplied on diskette with full-size punched manual MODEM 80 costs just $39.95

MOG Mail Order GeneratorMISSING

Practical Programs

MOG Automates Mail Ordering MOG (Mail Order Generator) for the TRS-80 Model I and III completely automates making mail orders. It prompts you for all order information, allows a review of your order and complete editing, sorts the order by any of five variables, totals the order, adds tax and postage, saves the order on cassette, and drives a 32-, 40- or 80-column printer. It supports lowercase on the Model III and requires at least 16K of memory, but will use up to 48K RAM for longer orders. It costs $10 from Practical Programs, 1104 Aspen Dr., Toms River, NJ 08753.

If You've Got the Money, Honey, I've Got the Time Two new programs, Telling Time and Money, combine guided learning drills, an arcade-style reward game, and a program- and student-management system. Telling Time contains lessons that work with digital and analog time recognition at four difficulty levels: hour, half-hour, quarter-hour, and five-minute intervals. Money trains students to count money, determine whether or not they have enough to buy particular items, and count change. When a student has correctly answered a set number of problems, he or she can play the arcade game as a reward. Teachers can use the system to hold up to 200 names and view, print, or delete all or individual files. The Model III/4 and MS-DOS versions of each program cost $44.95 ($54.95 with backup disk, and $164.95 for the class pack). Contact Gamco Industries Inc., Box 1911, Big Spring, TX 79721, 800-351-1404 (in Texas call collect, 915-267-6327).
