Help categorize the TRS-80 software archive

Nearly 30,000 programs, and almost none of them say what kind of program they are. Mark whatever you recognize. Pick as many words as fit — a game that teaches arithmetic is Game, Math, Education — then send the page. Everything is reviewed by hand before it goes anywhere near the archive, so a best guess is worth more than a blank.

Important Note: Do not do multiple entries of the same program. If you flag Super Nova by Big Five once, all Super Nova by Big Five entries will get updated. No need to waste your time flagging each Super Nova

gnsbfnc1.zip

GENERALIZED SUBROUTINE FACILITY 'GSF' FOR MODEL I . A SYSTEM for incorporating multiple machine language programs in a unified structure that provides easy access by TRS-80 BASIC users. Easily expanded by the user to include additional functions. Instructions furnished describing conventions used. GSF INCLUDES eighteen machine language subroutines providing the TRS-80 with much greater flexibility and extended capabilities. SORT 1000-ELEMENT ARRAYS IN 9 SECONDS!!! Two in-core sort subroutines are provided for sorting data in memory. The first subroutine sorts records consisting of corresponding elements of up to 15 arrays (mixed string, floating point, and integer) using multiple ascending or descending sort keys. The second subroutine sorts records consisting of elements of a character string array using multiple substrings as ascending or descending sort keys. These sort systems are very fast, versatile, and easy to use. Sort times average 30 TIMES faster than the fastest BASIC sort routines. READ AND WRITE ARRAYS TO TAPE. Two subroutines are provided to read and write data to cassette tape. This provides the user with the capability of reading or writing an entire array or screen image with one command. No leaders are written between data items. This significantly reduces read/write times making data tapes much more practical. Data validity checking is performed to ensure correct data is read, thus eliminating many data input/output errors. COMPRESS AND UNCOMPRESS DATA. Two subroutines are provided which compress data in memory by removing repeated characters with the ability to uncompress the data in the minimum space possible with subsequent regeneration. This, coupled with the Read and Write Tape Data Subroutines, provides an efficient method of data storage and retrieval. MOVE ARRAYS IN MEMORY. This subroutine moves data from one location in memory to another. This can be used to rapidly set one array of data equal to another or to move data into protected memory. The latter option provides a 'common' area that can be passed from one BASIC program to another. DUPLICATE MEMORY. Two subroutines are provided to duplicate a byte in memory. This is useful for setting arrays to zero or rapidly placing rows or columns of repeated characters on the screen. FAST HORIZONTAL AND VERTICAL LINES. This two subroutines draw graphic lines of any length and location on the screen. These routines dramatically decrease times necessary to generate graphical displays containing lines. DISPLAY SCREEN CONTROL. Five subroutines are provided for scrolling the screen up, down, left, right, and for generating inverse graphic displays. This can add impact to screen displays. ORDER 16, 32, OR 48K VERSION OF GSF MOD I $25.00; MOD III $30.00

GENEALOGY and the TRS-80's America's most popular personal computers have become significant genealogical tools. By combining the use of a Radio Shack computer and one of the following program systems, you can store information on family members and then print that information out in several formats without having to retype it. You can update each person's information at any time with the most recent facts. The system can audit the data to find erroneous and incomplete stored data. You can direct the system to print name indices automatically. You can also print both pedigree and descendent charts starting with any person. This can all be done without any special computer knowledge. There are also many more features to the following two systems. 'GENSYSTEMS' specialty: automatically adds and prints narratives and family tables storage/diskette: 335 to 705 persons computer system required: TRS-80 Model I, III, or 4 with: 48,000 characters of memory, 2 disk drives, and an 80 or more column printer program system: $128.45 descriptive booklet: $2.00 please address inquiries and orders as follows: ARMSTRONG GENEALOGICAL SYSTEMS c/o John J. THE SEARCH SERIES These five outstanding simulations by McGraw-Hill promote critical thinking and communication skills while teaching a variety of social studies and science material. Teamwork and cooperation are the essential characteristics of the SEARCH SERIES, which is designed to be used simultaneously by groups of students or by an entire class. Each student is responsible for recording information on a specific resource or function during the group's search, without which they cannot proceed. Each set comes in a vinyl binder with teacher's manual, 20 student handbooks, and a diskette that will manage the record-keeping for up to 100 classes and 3000 students while on their learning adventure! Grade level is 5 through 12, but we have also seen a group of school administrators enthusiastically using and enjoying the SEARCH SERIES! Available on disk for the Apple II with 48K and the TRS-80 with 32K. 5Y-104TD Geography Search (TRS-80) $180.00 In GEOGRAPHY SEARCH, students sail for the New World on ancient ships. They navigate with the computer, using the sun, ocean depth, climate, and the Trade Winds. 5Y-106TD Archeology Search (TRS-80) $180.00 ARCHEOLOGY SEARCH charges student research teams with the task of organizing the excavation of a newly discovered historical site. They will collect data and formulate theories about the origins of the people who once lived there. 5Y-103TD Geology Search (TRS-80) $180.00 GEOLOGY SEARCH sends teams to explore for oil. As the computer performs geological tests, the students learn about rocks, fossils, and underground structures in order to make decisions on drilling. 5Y-105TD Community Search (TRS-80) $180.00 COMMUNITY SEARCH sets students down in an ancient society forced to leave its ancestral home. They face choices about migration, occupations, aggression, and shelter. 5Y-107TD Energy Search (TRS-80) $180.00 In ENERGY SEARCH, students manage an energy factory and recreate the exciting steps in the search for new energy sources.

GHOST'S GALLERY Ghost's Gallery is a graphics game for the TRS-80 for one or two players. A sixty room castle is drawn on the screen. To win, a player must capture the ghost with the key and get to the front door before the ghost or other player captures him. This game takes its basic premise from the Playful Professor, but by dropping the mathematics section, room has been made for greatly enhanced graphics and game features. The ghost is much smarter, and, consequently, harder to beat. Secret passages exist. When he has been robbed of his key, the ghost fires deadly arrows into the maze to catch unwary players. The center of the castle is dominated by the Ghost's Gallery. Fast access to various parts of the castle is available here, but crushing walls and trapdoors must be avoided at all costs. 01-GG-T TRS-80 Model I Level II 16K or Model III Level II 16K cassette $12.95 01-GG-D TRS-80 Model I Level II 32K DISK $16.95
