Help categorize the TRS-80 software archive

Nearly 30,000 programs, and almost none of them say what kind of program they are. Mark whatever you recognize. Pick as many words as fit — a game that teaches arithmetic is Game, Math, Education — then send the page. Everything is reviewed by hand before it goes anywhere near the archive, so a best guess is worth more than a blank.

Important Note: Do not do multiple entries of the same program. If you flag Super Nova by Big Five once, all Super Nova by Big Five entries will get updated. No need to waste your time flagging each Super Nova

Basic Math Program from EMSI The Basic Math Program is a comprehensive math teaching package. It was created by a certified math teacher with 15 years of programming experience. The first three programs comprise: Whole Number Arithmetic by Teaching Objective. This set includes Addition, Subtraction and Multiplication. The fourth program is Fractions and Mixed Number Arithmetic. Logic and Deductive Reasoning is the fifth program in the set. The Metric/English Conversion program rounds out the series. You choose from a MENU of options, so as to custom-tailor both practice and test sessions. The program options include: Number of Problems/Session, Level of Problem Difficulty, Number of Seconds/Problem, Type of Assistance to be Offered, and Type of Reward. The package includes a 60 page teacher's manual that contains detailed instructions on how to use the programs. It shows you exactly what material will be on the monitor and how to select the program options. It further explains how to analyze the session results by number of problems correct, actual problems given, if an incorrect digit was entered, if it was corrected and whether the HELP feature was used. Fractions and Mixed Number Arithmetic shows the student every step of how to solve the problems. It waits for the student to enter each answer and, if he makes an error, reviews the material so the error can be found. Deductive Reasoning is a modified and much improved Mastermind-type exercise. Metric/English Conversion will convert quantities (length, area, volume and weight) from Metric to English, or English to Metric. Order No. 5002R $80.00 Instant Software Inc. Peterborough, N.H. 03458

Basic PrimeMISSING

Delta Micro Systems

basic' Programming Environment basic' is a powerful, completely structured extension of the Basic language. Blocks of code are indicated by a unique indentation convention, eliminating the need for extraneous statements (such as Begin and End) and statement numbers. A basic' program is written via editor'-a full function text file editor-and is then translated into a normal Basic program producing a listing that cross references the basic' to its Basic translation. The Basic translation is then debugged using the Basic interpreter already available on your microcomputer. basic' comes with full documentation on a program disk in a handy binder format. It is available for the Models I and III for $129 and requires at least one disk drive. For more information contact Delta Micro Systems, P.O. Box 15952, New Orleans, LA 70175, (800) 535-1814.

Basic Scientific Subroutines Vol 1MISSING

M13

BASIC SCIENTIFIC SUBROUTINES VOLUME I (available for all computers) BASIC SCIENTIFIC SUBROUTINES, VOLUME I by F. Ruckdeschel (published by BYTE/McGraw-Hill; see the January 1981 issue of BYTE Magazine, page 173) is the first in a series of books designed to provide microcomputer users with scientific subroutines written in BASIC. These subroutines have been designed to facilitate the application of microcomputers to scientific tasks which have previously been largely in the domain of the large timeshare mainframe computers. Through arrangements with the author and BYTE/McGraw-Hill, DYNACOMP has become the exclusive distributor of three software packages keyed to the above text. Each package includes programs organized by chapter and accessed/demonstrated by a special menu program written especially for DYNACOMP. Unlike other software packages commercially available which are keyed to texts, you do not have to search the tape (diskette or disk) to load a particular program. They are all loaded in one step and are called according to the menu selection. This makes life much easier for the user. Because of the total length of the software listed in the text (greater than 33 kilobytes), three collections have been organized. Each collection will run in 16K of program memory space (Atari requires 32-48K). Collection #1: Chapter 2 - Alphanumeric Data Plotting . Equally Spaced Data . Arbitrarily Spaced Data Chapter 3 - Complex Variables . Polar Coordinate Conversion . Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division . Powers and Roots . Spherical Coordinate Conversion Collection #2: Chapter 4 - Vector and Matrix Operations . N-vector Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication (dot and cross products) . N-vector Lengths . Angles Between Vectors . Matrix Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Transposition, etc. Row Operations . Cofactors, Determinants . Inversion . Eigenvalues . Exponentiation Collection #3: Chapter 5 - Random Number Generators . Uniform, Normal, Poisson, Binomial . Exponential, Fermi, Couchy, Gamma, Beta . Weibull Chapter 6 - Series Approximations . Sine, Cosine, Arctangent . Natural, Base-10 Exponent and Logarithm Price: $16.95 per collection (Cassette) $20.95 per collection (Diskette) $23.45 per collection (8 inch Disk) Accompanying each collection is documentation which describes how to use the associated menu program. Detailed descriptions of input/output parameters and the algorithms employed in the subroutines are to be found in the text BASIC Scientific Subroutines, Volume I (316 pages) which DYNACOMP also distributes ($27.95 plus 75 extra for postage and handling). The three collections may be purchased for a combined price of $44.95 (three cassettes), $53.95 (3 diskettes) or $59.95 (3 disks). See the reviews of BASIC Scientific Subroutines appearing in Kilobaud and Dr. Dobbs.

Basic Scientific Subroutines Vol 3 Chapter 2MISSING

Dynacomp

BASIC SCIENTIFIC SUBROUTINES VOLUME 3, CHAPTER II BASIC SORTING SUBROUTINES (Available for all computers except Atari) There have been so many requests for the third volume of the BASIC SCIENTIFIC SUBROUTINES series that the author has decided to supply the chapters and sections as they are finalized. The entire book has been written, but each chapter is being reworked to ensure compatibility with Volumes 1 and 2, as well as with the other Chapters in Volume 3. Volume 3 is basically a text dealing with statistical subroutines, including data handling. The second chapter is concerned with numeric and alphanumeric ('alphabetical') sorting. This topic was chosen for an early chapter because data usually has to be ranked, ordered or separated before any quantitative analysis can ensue. Seven (actually, fourteen; seven for numeric arrays; seven for alphanumeric arrays) sorting routines are discussed: . The bubble sort . The insertion sort . The Shell sort . The Shell-Metzner sort . The Butterfly-Hart sort . The heap sort . The quick sort Each has advantages and disadvantages in terms of speed under certain sorting conditions, code length, array memory requirements, and equal element exchanges (a very important property which is usually overlooked). Also included in this chapter is a program for accurately calculating moments (e.g. mean, variance). The subroutines are presented in the same REMarked format as is the pattern in the other volumes. There are demonstration programs for showing how they operate, timing comparisons, input/output descriptions, variables list, etc. In other words, these programs are fully commented and documented in the same way which has made Volumes 1 and 2 so popular. The package is composed of the disk(ette) containing the subroutines and demonstration programs, and a preprint of Volume 3, Chapter II (over 160 pages). Price: $29.95 Diskette $32.45 8-inch CP/M Disk Watch the DYNACOMP catalog for announcements concerning more chapters. Please do not call for progress reports. We appreciate your interest, but it does get monotonous (for us).

BASIC Toolkit v1.1

F Barry Mulligan

M1 · 1979 · CMD

bastlk11.zip

BASIC TOOLKIT by F. Barry Mulligan from TBS If you program in BASIC, you can use this package. This easy-to-use machine language utility will save you time and and effort. The use of variables in BASIC programming can often get rather complicated. While you can keep track of where each varialbe is used, why not let the computer do that work? Well, this program lets the computer do just that. It produces a 'map' alphabetically listing the variables in any of your BASIC programs and gives the line number where they are used. In addition, the program displays a listing of each line number jumped to followed by the lines from which the jumps are made. This includes all GOTO's, GOSUB's and RESUMEs. This can be especially important when trying to limit the number of lines in a program or before making any changes to a subroutine. Esides these two 'tools' you can also merge BASIC programs from cassette, recover any programs 'lost' by an accidental NEW, and test the computer's memory. And all of these functions are available from a single keystroke while you are working on your BASIC program. For these features and more, order your 'Toolkit' today! $19.80.

BASIC/S Compiler II v1.8 [Set 1]

BASICS II/CMD Mod I or III $69.95 BASIC/S II is a BASIC compiler for a powerful subset of TRS-80 Disk BASIC (Mod I/III) which is itself written in BASIC, but now is a stand alone / CMD file compiled by BASCOM(c), and is FAST! (previously sold as BASIC/S 3.1) It runs under almost ANY DOS, Mod I or III (as do the /CMD files it generates). BASIC/S II will compile BASIC programs up to about 10K in size (but since one compiled program can run another with no loss of variables, this is not a serious limitation). Variables allowed are integers and strings (A-Z and A$-Z$) and also arrays of integer and string (1 or 2 dimensions). Array names can be any length, with all characters significant. Integer arithmetic is limited to addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division with at most two operands on the right hand side (eg A=BC or Z=D/F). Array elements may be used here as usual, as may constants (as in A=ARRAY (7) 5, for example). Most Level II string functions are supported: INSTR, STR$, VAL, CHR$, ASC, LEFT$, RIGHT$, MID$, INKEY$. Complex string formulae are not allowed (thus you can't say A$=LEFT$ (X$+Y$,2); you would need to say something like B$=X$+Y$:A$=LEFT$(B$,2), instead. Disk I/O IS supported, both sequential and random (with LRL < 256 as well). You can have up to 10 files open at one time, and two of them may be random files. Disk statements that are supported include OPEN, CLOSE, LINE INPUT #, PRINT # FIELD, LSET, GET, PUT, LOF, EOF, CVI, and MKI$.
