Help categorize the TRS-80 software archive

Nearly 30,000 programs, and almost none of them say what kind of program they are. Mark whatever you recognize. Pick as many words as fit — a game that teaches arithmetic is Game, Math, Education — then send the page. Everything is reviewed by hand before it goes anywhere near the archive, so a best guess is worth more than a blank.

Important Note: Do not do multiple entries of the same program. If you flag Super Nova by Big Five once, all Super Nova by Big Five entries will get updated. No need to waste your time flagging each Super Nova

Archaeology SearchMISSING

McGraw-Hill

THE SEARCH SERIES These five outstanding simulations by McGraw-Hill promote critical thinking and communication skills while teaching a variety of social studies and science material. Teamwork and cooperation are the essential characteristics of the SEARCH SERIES, which is designed to be used simultaneously by groups of students or by an entire class. Each student is responsible for recording information on a specific resource or function during the group's search, without which they cannot proceed. Each set comes in a vinyl binder with teacher's manual, 20 student handbooks, and a diskette that will manage the record-keeping for up to 100 classes and 3000 students while on their learning adventure! Grade level is 5 through 12, but we have also seen a group of school administrators enthusiastically using and enjoying the SEARCH SERIES! Available on disk for the Apple II with 48K and the TRS-80 with 32K. 5Y-104TD Geography Search (TRS-80) $180.00 In GEOGRAPHY SEARCH, students sail for the New World on ancient ships. They navigate with the computer, using the sun, ocean depth, climate, and the Trade Winds. 5Y-106TD Archeology Search (TRS-80) $180.00 ARCHEOLOGY SEARCH charges student research teams with the task of organizing the excavation of a newly discovered historical site. They will collect data and formulate theories about the origins of the people who once lived there. 5Y-103TD Geology Search (TRS-80) $180.00 GEOLOGY SEARCH sends teams to explore for oil. As the computer performs geological tests, the students learn about rocks, fossils, and underground structures in order to make decisions on drilling. 5Y-105TD Community Search (TRS-80) $180.00 COMMUNITY SEARCH sets students down in an ancient society forced to leave its ancestral home. They face choices about migration, occupations, aggression, and shelter. 5Y-107TD Energy Search (TRS-80) $180.00 In ENERGY SEARCH, students manage an energy factory and recreate the exciting steps in the search for new energy sources.

Arith-Magic [Childrens Learning Game]MISSING

Quality Educational Designs

Mainly Mathematics For many children, learning math can be a chore. Arith-Magic ($35) makes learning math fun by letting children from grades 4 and up explore mathematical questions in three math games. Children develop and learn the concepts of areas and perimeters as they play the games. One program, Squarea, shows patterns in perfect squares; Rectangle lays the groundwork for factoring; Perarea covers area and perimeter and demonstrates how to compare sets of numbers. The programs raise important questions about measurement, and require familiarity with addition and multiplication. Arith-Magic runs on the Models III and 4 with 32K of memory. Contact Quality Educational Designs, P.O. Box 12486, Portland, OR 97212, 503-287-8137 for more information.

Armageddon II

armgd2ps.zip

In Armageddon you defeat other players through diplomacy and military action. The Nuclear Solution? Continent by continent, the world has succumbed to revolution. As the leader of one continent in a post-revolutionary world, your survival depends on defeating up to five other countries. Armageddon 1998 is a world politics/nuclear war game that pits you against one to five other players to determine who will be the next world leader. You start by building up your country's economic and military might. You can form alliances, build hospitals, build antiballistic missile systems and ICBMs, and send secret messages to your allies. In addition to military strength, you must invest in farming to feed the population and generate propaganda to keep your countrymen from revolting. Eventually, combat or nuclear strikes are necessary to eliminate opponents. To win you must crush all opponents, keep the economy in good shape, prevent revolution, and gather taxes to pay for defense. Armageddon 1998 requires a 48K Model I, III, or 4 and is available on disk for $19.95 plus $2 postage. For more information contact Pacific Software, P.O. Box 1295, La Canada, CA 91011, 818-795-2178.

Arranger v1.1 [Original]

Dan Foy

M1 · 1982 · DMK

arrngr11.zip

THE ARRANGER Our poor DISKLIB program is finally being laid to rest. With all the operating systems on the market, a special set of coding was required to read LDOS, TRSDOS, NEWDOS/80 (1.0 and 2.0) and DOSPLUS for the Models I and III! We needed someone special to write this program, and only one software house could possibly provide the intricate code necessary -- Circle J Software! The boys at Circle J were awfully busy, but they did offer to act as counselor for the project and provide the information needed to get the ball rolling. They did, and the product is now in the final stages of testing. Anticipated release date is May 1st, but could be sooner. The Arranger will allow you to read ALL your diskettes, both Model I and III, on a Model III or a Model I with double density. This statement specifically applies to those operating systems mentioned; we do not support CP/M (ugh!). The entire program is written in Z-80 code, including the sort routine (sort by filename or by disk name). The Arranger allows selective retrieval by file or disk, including 'wild card' searches such as ?/BAS to pull up any programs with that extension. You can also ask for all disk names with 'nn' free grans! But the best part is keeping your library up to date: The Arranger is the first program that will read your directory, and actually REPLACE the previous directory information! Makes it so easy! It's impossible to add the same diskette twice! Disk names may be entered manually, or The Arranger will zap them onto your disk for you! Because complete control of the system is needed, and data must be arranged for the largest possible libraries, The Arranger comes on a specially formatted diskette that cannot be backed up by regular procedures. There is a built in backup procedure, but it does require that you 'read in' at least 10 diskettes prior to backup. The Arranger is available two ways: Single density only, and the double density version (the latter will handle everything, including single density, but will not boot on systems without a 1791 FDC). Please specify which version you want when you order. The same version works on either Model I or III systems. We're very proud to add this program to our list of top quality programs, and extend a warm & hearty 'THANK YOU!' to both Dan Foy (author) and Jesse Bob (consultant) for a job well done. The Arranger is $29.95 and is supplied on diskette.
