Despite the dying scanner, a very small new 80 Micro has been scanned - Volume 01 (01/80). It is available on the 80 Micro page.
I have a favor to ask. I am trying to find a LP called
"Kidding Around with Carol Channing and the Kids." (ISBN: 0898454727)
It was made in 1984, published by Caedmon. There's nothing on eBay, nothing on Amazon, and most 'merchant' sites out there simply link back to Amazon.
If anyone lives near, or frequents, a used music store and finds themselves inside, if you would not mind looking to see if they have it (either the LP or the cassette), I would appreciate it.
Despite the dying scanner, a new 80 Micro has been scanned - Volume 23 (11/81). It is available on the 80 Micro page.
Well, I got my Amazon.com quarterly report for last quarter. It was $0.00. It would certainly be appreciated if people would order thru my amazon.com and buy.com links so that the site could get some income to offset the $45 per month fees + other costs of acquiring new materials for posting. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

I have just learned of an amazing new piece of hardware for those who still have TRS-80's. It is a box which emulates a floppy drive on a real TRS-80, but jacks into an IBM for mounting DMK images!!!! No device drivers are needed for the TRS-80 as the TRS-80 simply sees a floppy drive. You can get details at www.rothfus.com/SVD.

To coincide with the new TOSEC release of my updated DATs, and with the graciousness of Cord Coslor as host, I have made the collection of Software manuals available for download. They are made with my thanks to Tim Mann, Dave Keil, Wade Fincher, Pete Bumgardner, and everyone else who has scanned, hosted, or otherwise made these available for archiving. You can find them under the Documentation nav tab, on the left.
Thanks to Cord Coslor (again), the Books archive is now available under the Documents navbar.
If anyone wants the binderless copies of the books I have scanned, please email me.
This morning's book scan is "Custom TRS-80 and Other Mysteries" by Dennis Bathory Kitsz
There are 2 copies scanned. I considered this book VERY important, so I took the pain and effort to scan each page in grayscale, 300DPI, into TIFFs, which I edited a little. That produced a ridiculously large file. Rather than toss it, because the pictures will be of higher quality, I re-scanned it as normal --- straight to PDF. Both copies are available for download,
Almost every scanned book has found a home ...

MAJOR NEWS ALERT:
Matthew Reed has completed his three year development of a Windows based Model 1, 3, and 4 emulator!!!!
Per his site :
"TRS32 is a completely accurate, hardware-level, Windows emulation of the TRS-80 Models 1, 3, and 4, with speed and capabilities exactly the same as a "real" TRS-80. Whether you're using a protected disk, playing a classic TRS-80 arcade game, or listening to Orchestra 85/90 music files, this emulator feels like the real thing - even down to the realistic sound of the virtual disk drives"
Unregistered Shareware Version:
* Works under all current versions of Windows
* Full Windows application - no low-level hardware conflicts!
* Model 1, Model 3, and Model 4 emulation
* Four floppy disk drives (with optional realistic disk drive sound)
* Cassette tape drive with graphical on-screen controls
* Printer support
* Serial port for RS-232 communications
* Joystick support (using a Windows joystick - TRISSTICK and Alpha Products joysticks are emulated)
Registered Version:
* All features included in the shareware version
* High resolution graphics (Radio Shack and MicroLabs)
* Up to 1 megabyte of additional memory in Model 4 mode
* Hard disk support
* Orchestra 85/90 music generation
Facts:
* Is a native Windows application (features such as sound and joystick support will work on all hardware, and you can run the emulator concurrently with other Windows applications without any adverse effects)
* Emulates the Model 1, Model 3, and Model 4 with a variety of hardware add-ons, including doublers, graphics boards, joysticks, and additional memory
* Provides complete and "cycle accurate" hardware-level emulation (even protected disks work without problems)
* Includes optional realistic TRS-80 disk drive sound
* Supports all popular virtual disk (.DSK) formats
I encourage everyone to register his emulator. Since I am not on Unix/Linux (nods to Tim), Matthews emulator is the one I use to maintain this site -- to check programs, to convert files, to create disks. I have used this new emulator and it is astounding.

Eric Seiden has made some of his old DAR Systems International games available on his site. If you go to this page you will arrive on a page with The Pits Of Doom!and The Mines of Moria on it. If you note, however, the "-" in TRS-80 is a hyperlink. If you click on that, you will wind up on a page of his other software. The reason for this method is explained on that page, and I don't particularly want to go into it here. Just suffice it to say that some great games are available through this link. Thanks Eric!

Tim Mann has made a bunch of changes to his Catweasel utilities, and has updated them to v3.3. This package is NOT just for people with Catweasel's. This package also includes his JV32DMK and DMK2JV3 utilities which convert between DSK formation and DMK format. Since there are precious few (if any) programs which can move files from DOS to DMK, this is an invaluable utility.
It can be downloaded from the Emulator Page (under TRS-80 Utilities) or from Tim's Site

The Cord Coslor hosted files (manuals and books) are down. It seems someone decided to download 10GB in a 12 hour period. If there are any CGI programmers out there who can come up with some CGI which can prevent this kind of action (like limiting downloads to 1 at a time per IP or some kind of code which blocks automatic downloads of all links on a page), I would appreciate if you would send me an email. We have to stop this kind of behaviour because, simply put, this is how I lose hosts. Cord is managing it, so its not a problem at the moment, but if we intend to keep the archive up and up-to-date (as I am frozen out as well, and cannot post today's scan), I need help to stop this. Any help is appreciated, and look for the Books/Manuals to return in a few days.

For those of you who check the newsgroups, I have started listing some of my personal TRS-80 collection (all originals, of course), on eBay, both to raise money and to cut down on possessions now that I have the wonderful California rains to recouperate from.
I will post notices on the newsgroups, but will also list items as news here. Bidding is, of course, encouraged.
Something is in the works to bring the paper documents back online. In anticipation of that, I am consolidating all of the Software, Hardware, and Books which have been posted since December 2004 in the below list:
Software Manuals:

I am running new eBay auctions ...
We now have a book/manual mirror!!!!! The domain is resolving, and once it resolves, and I can link to the files, the files will be back up!!! I must thank Jeff Lasman of www.nobaloney.net for his generosity. If anyone is looking for hosting and integration services, I would encourage you to go to www.nobaloney.net.
We now have a magazine mirror!!!!! The account is set up, but I need to find out how to access uploaded files. I would like to thank Charles Christe for his generosity.

I have been receiving some emails about downloading difficulties. Please allow me to shed some light ...
First off, as loyal site visitors know, paper downloads (downloads of books, software manuals, hardware manuals, catalogs, newsletters, etc.) were down for December and most of January due to 1 individual who leeched so much information, that the Celebrity Direct host went down, and they were the sole host of the books and manuals.
During the 2 months of down time, 3 sets of promises to write scripts, and 2 sets of promises to host, all came in, but went unfulfilled. Then, on one day, two additional host offers came in, to bring the count up to 3 mirrors.
The site uses scripts for downloading for one purpose --- to allocate across multiple mirrors. This way, demands for files are randomly allocated, and each host receives only 1/3 of the demand. This is intended to prevent host loss.
Despite having three hosts, and only 1/3 the bandwidth allocated to each, I got these all rougly at the same time (between February 4th and 7th) ...
Celebrity Direct Mirror:
In his explanation as to why this mirror is now dead, 7 days after it came back online, I received the following:
IP that resolves to zimmermannprinting.com -- approx 13 gig in January. areims-151-1-60-194.w83-192.abo.wanadoo.fr - approx. 9 gig wnpgmb01dc2-27-34.dynamic.mts.net - approx 9 gig 194.149.232.85 - 6 gig in a day 4.79.40.170 - 3 gig here in a day over 3-4 days 81.251.255.8 - 309 Hits on the server in one day 12.126.116.170 - 237 hits on the server
Since this usage was so vulgar, his ISP actually called him. Not emailed --- called. This long-standing loyal mirror is now dead, regardless of what the future holds.
EZ WEB Mirror:
In his explanation as to why this mirror is now cut off, 7 days after it came online, I received the following:
During the past five days I've noticed a bit over 2 Gig of transit per day. The site has used its monthly allocated bandwidth in the first 5 days of the month.
I have asked for more specific information as to the culprits, which I will post here, but regardless of whether that shows up, there goes # 2.
BlueWin.CH Mirror:
In his explanation as to why this mirror is offline, 7 days after it came online, I received the following:
Unfortunately I do block the site until I can find this [IP ADDRESS DELETED FROM THIS NEWS ITEM] provide very hard attacks.
3 mirrors killed in 7 days. On top of this, this was a randomly allocated split bandwidth, so anything you read, above, was at least triple what it says.
Needless to say, this is turning from a fun hobby to something which is far more work than it needs to be, and far more costly than it should, so changes are now required.
After reviewing the situation I have decided the following:
a) If anyone out there will write custom download scripts for the site, and who will actually do it in a timely fashion, please email me.
b) If anyone out there will provide 15GB of web accessable storage with a maximum bandwidth cap of no less than 60GB per month, please email me.
Either will help return the paper downloads.
Until this happens (and possibly both), please assume paper downloads are offline permanently, and that this site is resuming its old way of serving software only.
Taunchy, a fellow TOSEC member, is (seemingly) 'flooding' the TRS-80 books collection onto the usenet. For those who wish to get them, trot on over to alt.binaries.emulators.misc and download them. As of 7AM, California Time, 31 of 132 have been posted. Remember, your usenet hosts's retention rates may vary, so you probably should get on it. I use Newsbin when working with binaries on the usenet. Taunch has led off with the TOSEC DATs for the Hardware and Software manuals also, so it is likely he is flooding all 8GB of Manuals and Books.
Taunchy's flood is complete --- please leech it from the usenet! Taking it from the Usenet means you won't need it from here when we go back live.
Bearing in mind that the load scripts balanced out across 3 mirrors, here are the statistics on the ezbooks shutdown:
First, from an overall standpoint, the 7 days EZWEB was up, spanning the very end of January and the beginning of February, it took:
| Month | Daily Avg | Monthly Totals | ||||||||
| Hits | Files | Pages | Visits | Sites | KBytes | Visits | Pages | Files | Hits | |
| Feb 2005 | 2,108 | 487 | 37 | 13 | 172 | 16,073,093 | 92 | 264 | 3411 | 14760 |
| Jan 2005 | 11,982 | 475 | 439 | 10 | 143 | 10,381,182 | 71 | 3073 | 3328 | 83880 |
| Totals | 26,454,275 | 163 | 3,337 | 6,739 | 98,640 | |||||
Thats 26 GIGABYTES in 7 days. And that was 1/3 the draw. Too bad donations don't keep up with that ;)
The 2 days we were live in January:

The 5 days we were live in February:

Well, I must say, I have good news. But first, a story.
1) One of the hosts, nobaloney.net (shown as EZWeb, below), has been rabid in getting the books and manuals hosted. They are one of the current hosts, and the only reason they shut me down was an automatic kill. Jeff Lasman, the big cheese over there, had actually sent me an email before it happened telling me he was getting warnings, and wanted to check with his admins to see if it could be headed off. I told him to let it go down, because I was interested in not losing the mirror. It is and was my belief that it is better that the downloaders get a 404, but the host is still willing to host in the future, than to lose it all.
So, the choice to lose the EZWeb mirror, in response to an automatic warning, was mine (for the greater good), not theirs.
However, Jeff is very interested in keeping the downloads live. It seems that he used to own Practical Applications and wishes to continue helping the TRS-80 community. I had checked in with him, asking for the stats (which appear below, and which show that he served 26GB in 7 days on TRS-80 alone). When he provided the stats he told me the site has been unblocked, and asked me to go live despite the prior 2 news entries.
So, at Jeff's insistence and with his graciousness, the Books and Manuals will be live within a few moments of me posting this news story. While I still hope that you will grab them off alt.binaries.emulators.misc, and only take updates from the site, the site will be live.
As an aside, if anyone has any Practical Applications brand hardware or software, Jeff would be interested in it for nostalgia, so please let me know.
And as a double aside, if you have downloaded off of the ezweb mirror in the random allocation, you probably saw its speed. If you are looking for dedicated or shared hosting, system colocation, rental servers or reseller accounts, Domain Registration or DNS, please consider nobaloney.net.
2) Also implemented as a host, in the place of Cord Coslor's site (and Cord has my deepest appreciation, and my deepest apologies for how the drain on the site took down his, and his associated sites), is our very own Javier, owner of the KJSL.COM which was the origin of all things TRS-80 on the web, has jumped in with a full boat. He has ok'd the 15GB, and all books, manuals, and magazines except for 80 Micro have been uploaded to KJSL. 80 Micros are 3.8GB for the RARs alone, and those may take until tomorrow. 404's are likely on 80 Micros as the (old) scripts have already been changed to include the KJSL host as Javier also believes he can keep up with the drain.
3) A long time unnamed site supporter has also offered up some space, so another mirror may come online soon as well to spread the pain of hosting a little thinner.
4) Finally, an unnamed benefactor has advised me that he is about to route a number of new books, manuals, and disks, some specifically designed to complete book sets that are currenty incomplete. I am all caught up on my books/manuals scanning, and cannot do full color magazines (like 80 micros) with my very aged and beat up scanner, so once those come in, new books/manuals will appear on the site. Since sending me books is sending them to the graveyard, his sacrifice is appreciated.
The August 1983 80 Micro has been scanned entirely into a PDF by Horacio Rodriguez Montero! There is no DJVU of this one. I have also started implementing a ZIP download (which can be very large) due to some of the mirrors not serving up RAR images properly (sending them as a web page). Split files and ZIP files are IDENTICAL, you do not need to download both.
We are testing the download scripts over the weekend --- software manuals will be down (or at least, if you get a 404, please dont tell me about it).
I have been advised that people have started putting the Manuals and Books on various Gnutella networks (EDonkey2000, Gnutella, BitTorrent and Gnutella2). If you feel you need to download large quantities of these items, please try these alternate soures, and use this site for fills, rather than for the full set.
Thanks to an inquiry on comp.sys.tandy, I remembered that I had never linked to the TRSDOS v1.3 Zapspage. It is now linked under the Patches/Tricks menubar.
We are still trying to work the kinks out of the scripts, and multiple mirrors. Please let me know if any Software or Books are 404. Please do NOT contact me if any of the Hardware Manuals are 404, as those are currently the problem.

I have submitted a new TOSEC DAT, this time for the 5.24GB of 80 Micro PDF's we have to date. Since the last time I released a TOSEC DAT it knocked out the mirrors, I am applying restrict scripts to the 80 Micro PDF's. The scripts are in place, as is the HTML code, but the files are not renamed accordingly. Every 80 Micro PDF download will give a 404 at the moment, but that should be resolved by noon on 3/15/05.
The TOSEC dats are out, I believe. The 80 Micro PDF's should be online. If you get a 404, and you have noted which server has given you the error, you may feel free to email me. Please send me the name of the file you were trying to get, and the server which provided the 404, and I will fix it as soon as I can. Thanks!
On another note, I have provided all 5.4GB of them to TOSEC, and I believe a Usenet flood will occur shortly in Alt.Binaries.Emulators.Misc.
For those interested, the 80 Micro PDF's (comprising 5.4GB) are currently being flooded on alt.binaries.emulators.misc PARs are included. Please grab from there.
James the Animal Tamer's Emulators site has released the Virtual MC-10 v0.69c emulator for the MC-10 Computer. It can be downloaded from his site, or from the emulator page.
The 80 Micro PDF flood continues on alt.binaries.emulators.misc.
Jeff has provided directory listings of the 18 unsorted CP/M disk images, which descriptions now been addded to the CP/M page.
The flood in ALT.BINARIES.EMULATORS.MISC seems to have concluded, after 5 days. It is my hope you have been grabbing them from there, intead of here.
Jeff has also provided Disassembled Montezuma Micro CP/M v2.32
Horacio has scanned 80 Microcomputing Volume 34 (November, 1982)
While I continue to have no knowledge about CP/M, I have been getting a hand on the sorting. The CP/M page has been updated.
A link to the Z-80 Support Site has been added to the Email/Links page
I have sorted through all the DSK/DMK images I had in my CP/M directory, but have stopped anything further with regard to any non-DSK CP/M programs I have.
First, listing all CP/M programs, as a collection, is outside the scope of this site. I was just going to work with whatever I happened to have, test them, label them, and be done.
However, I have been banging my head against the wall for 4 hours trying to copy files from one CP/M DSK to another, and can't get SYSGEN, CONFIG, or anything to work. What's going on is that the v2.32 copy of CP/M posted includes a utility, called NWD80CPM.COM, which will read a NEWDOS/80 "diskette" and import the files onto a CP/M "diskette". This would (have) allow(ed) me to use TRSWRITE to put the free-floating CP/M programs I have (such as SARGON for CP/M) onto a NewDos/80 disk, which would then have allowed me to move them to a CP/M DSK for testing, labeling, etc.
The posted CP/M v2.32 seems weird in that it intermittently refuses to use the backspace, or shifted characters such as : and =, and if I try to delete all the visible programs on the disk I get BIOS errors, so I don't want to use that as the testing or distribution CP/M flavor to have on DSK images housing the newly imported and tested stuff.
The posted CP/M v1.32 does not suffer from any of these problems, and has the CP/M version of the COPY command (called PIP.COM) present, but does not have NWD80CPM.COM to copy the files.
Trying to get NWD80CPM.COM off the v2.32 DSK, onto a bare v1.32 DSK is what cost me the 4 hours of fiddling with SYSGEN, CONFIG, etc.
Anyway, even writing this up is traumatizing me from what I just went thru, particularly for a system I don't wish to cover.
Two people are currently sending me their unsorted diskettes for conversion ... I have a feeling that there will be good stuff.
Knut has released his Model 3 Wav2CAS utility!!!
Larry Fosdick has agreed to take the CP/M conversion process. He will go through my unsorted CP/M stuff and clean that up for only things that will run on a TRS-80 running CP/M. While I do not wish to at all be a CP/M repository (there are PLENTY of those), I at least wanted to take my unsorted stuff and sort it.
Jeff Post has written a CP/M Disk Directory utility that will display the contents of a CP/M DSK.

My 5.25" drive had died following the Dennis Bathory-Kitsz conversion, and the first fifty Thomas Bourke disks. I went out on eBay (which I DESPISE) and 'bought' 3 drives. The first came today, and it worked like a champ. I have resumed dumping of the Thomas Bourke originals, and will try to sort them tomorrow.

I have modified the Model 1, 3, and 4 pages to also have a separate download page for DOS's. DOS's have been removed from the other pages (e.g., N no longer has NEWDOS, D no longer has DOSPLUS, but all DOS's are on the DOS pages).

Horacio has scanned 80 Microcomputing Volume 30 (June/July, 1982)
I received a book off of eBay (thanks to a site supporter) which contained 10 David Ahl adventures. They are for the IBM BASIC, but old time programmers know that this is not an insurmountable obstacle. I scanned one in, converted it for TRS-80 use, and am pleased to provide The Journey of Marco Polo for Model I, by David Ahl. Also hand converted, is The Longest Automobile Race 1908 for Model I (BAS) - David H Ahl (1986).
Model 4
David Freed has provided two 360KB drives to the site. I am very hopeful that these drives will bring the drive issue (as discussed on comp.sys.tandy) to a close.

Please note that the risk of having multiple mirrors which are free are that they are not as reliable as one would need. I have been unable to log into the ".ch" mirror to upload this book. If you get a 404, wait the 3 minutes, and try again for a different mirror. Sorry for the inconvenience

Tim Mann has released v4.1 of his Catweasel Utilities.
The three (3) CTR-81 cassette recorders I 'won' on eBay have arrived. If I am lucky, one will work (meaning, a better success rate than floppy drives bought on eBay), and I can get back to the tapes that I have around, including one set provided by Neil M.
Attila Gr?sz has provided, on his web site, two interesting items. The first, is a DOS command line utility which will convert /CMD files to CAS files. The second, is v1.2 of his a HT 1080/Z emulator. The HT 1080/Z is a hungarian TRS-80 clone. The emulator does not require any ROMs.

The Model 1, 3, and 4 download pages have been reformatted to make them fit in with the rest of the site design. With this change, I also modified the HTML generating program to include a third icon, beyond those of ADVERTISEMENT and MANUAL. If a little video screen shows up, there is a screen shot which will come up in a pop-up window.
If anyone wishes to supply any screen shots, the I have three guidelines. The reason for the guidelines are uniform size (guideline 1), and ease of integration into the site (guidelines 2 and 3 will allow a copy command, and a cut and paste, and be done). They are:
I have used some donations and won the May 1980, June 1980, July 1980, Aug 1980, October 1980 (3 tapes), November 1980 (3 tapes) and December 1980 Softside magazine tapes on eBay.
The Model 100 emulator, Virtual T was updated to v0.3a
Horacio, by the good graces and great patience of his wife, Norah, has scanned 80 Microcomputing Volume 36 (January, 1983)
The Scott Adams Adventure Page now has an additional column to download ADVEDIT disassemblys of adventures 1-12.
Horacio has scanned 80 Microcomputing Volume 18 (June, 1981).
Visit the Micro-80 Page.
The rest of the Micro-80's I had have been scanned ... please see the Micro-80 Page.
Tim Mann has released v4.2 of his Catweasel Utilities! Version 4.2 has an improved write precompensation option in dw2cmk and a few other small changes.
Tim Mann has released v4.9a of his XTRS Emulator!
I have only 1 80-US Journal left in my possession - Jan/Feb 1981. That issue is missing its cover. I intend to scan the issue tomorrow (May 26). If anyone has that issue and a scanner, it would be great if you could send me an email with a full size scan of the cover page, and the other side of the cover page. If not, I will post the scan with no cover, finishing up this little project.
Paul Mocarski has a Model III which is not functioning (powers up but does not boot from floppy) which he is willing to give away to anyone for the cost of shipping. The item is located in Strongsville, Ohio (Cleveland suburb) for those in driving distance. If interested, please contact Paul at pjmocarski at ameritech.net

It seems that David Keil has updated his CoCo emulators, and has released v2.1 of both his CoCo II emulator and his CoCo III emulator. They are both available either on his site, or on the Emulator page.
Tim Mann has updated his fantastic Catweasel utilities to v4.3.
This version fixes a bug where the RX02 bit (a diskette format from 1978 which had a capacity of 512K by using a 77-track double density 8" disk) could get set on the whole DMK archive if the program sees what it thinks may even be a single sector as RX02.
Also, the program now identifies the version number on startup, and shows what the good/bad sector count is on each RETRY message.

I have left my job of 5 1/2 years. While this will do wonders for my piece of mind, it did not do so for my ability to scan. Other than scans provided by site visitors (such as Horacio, who is now just 7 issues short of a complete set of 80 micros for scanning), I will not be adding any more books, manuals, etc, as I no longer have access to a scanner. I had, however, done a major audit of my boxes of TRS-80 stuff (coming to an eBay near you), and I think I got them all, including re-scanning virtually all of the TRS-80 Microcomputer Newsletters to bring their file sizes down.
On the other hand, I have received Doug and Lissa's (well, probably Doug's) set of 300 diskettes, and hope to start dealing with them soon. Keep on the lookout for new software on the site!
Because the news page was getting too large, January through June has been moved to old news.

Although I have it on the 80 Micro page, I thought another push may help. Horacio, who is also seeking help from his nephew, continues to scan the 80 Micros. Horacio now has all but 5 issues in his possession (in Argentina) for scanning. If you happen to have any of the following issues lying around, and are willing to part with them permanently, please let me know. Issues 55, 81, 99, 100, and 101 are now scanned.
