Help categorize the TRS-80 software archive

Nearly 30,000 programs, and almost none of them say what kind of program they are. Mark whatever you recognize. Pick as many words as fit — a game that teaches arithmetic is Game, Math, Education — then send the page. Everything is reviewed by hand before it goes anywhere near the archive, so a best guess is worth more than a blank.

Important Note: Do not do multiple entries of the same program. If you flag Super Nova by Big Five once, all Super Nova by Big Five entries will get updated. No need to waste your time flagging each Super Nova

'The program mix is eclectric, interesting, and curious If I had a Level II TRS-80 and one or more grade-school children, or if I were a hardcore software collector, or if I had little software and wanted to get a lot of it with a minimum of bother, I'd buy the Library 100.' DEFEND - THE HIGHLY ACCLAIMED ACTION GAME INVADERS as you have probably already discovered is a great deal of fun, but it is only played on one plane - vertical. ASTEROIDS is more 'three dimensional', but it is concerned with inanimate objects, namely lumps of space rock. With DEFEND you actually feel as if you are piloting the craft. The result is a game with a high addictive content. Your objective is to shoot down a squadron of aggressive enemy ships. If you are skilful or lucky enough to obliterate them all, you have to navigate through a shower of meteorites. If you get through that then you must navigate a tunnel before you are in the clear. You then automatically return to the beginning and begin another orbit, albeit at a somewhat harder level. The game is played on a horizontal plane, but one of the great features of the game is that you can control you ship in all directions through a single plane. In other words, you can not only go up and down and sideways, but also diagonally. In the highest of the three levels of play the control of the ship is very crisp and fast, the sound effects are good, and with the disk version the five highest scores can be saved. In addition to your main armament of laser cannon you also have a limited number of Smart Bombs. These cause all of the alien ships to lose their cannon power. To warn you of impending danger there is a radar screen provided on the top right of your screen, this represents the space which is being approached. As well as three levels of play, there are various game parameters. For instance, a different number of aliens will appear with each level, and as each circuit of the course is completed five ships are added to a maximum of 60 - at this level the action becomes extremely fierce ! The disk and cassette versions are essentially the same, although the former does save scores to disk. SYSTEM 80 owners should note that it is only compatible with their machines if the clear and arrow keys have been added. PACKAGE 1 Have you ever backed-up a diskette only to end up killing off a dozen unwanted files. It can get quite tedious typing in all those file names. Well now there's a program for you! DELETE is one of those invaluable programs you'll find yourself depending on more and more. It can be used to kill off unwanted files after a back-up, or you can use it to eliminate development programs once the final copy is finished. DELETE comes with a number of switches, the functions of which are too numerous to mention here. Needless to say, DELETE is quite complete. NAME has only one function and that is the rewriting of the DOS and date block in your diskette directory. The reasons for wanting to use this program are many, but we will only mention three. First, NAME can protect your diskette from theft by placing your name or initials in the DOS section of the directory. Second, by placing your disk number in the date section you can make finding a program a lot easier. Lastly you can use name to number your diskettes for D.D.M.S., DISKETTE DIRECTORY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM, but that's another program. These two programs will receive constant use, and at only $15.95 you'd be foolish to pass them by.
