Help categorize the TRS-80 software archive

Nearly 30,000 programs, and almost none of them say what kind of program they are. Mark whatever you recognize. Pick as many words as fit — a game that teaches arithmetic is Game, Math, Education — then send the page. Everything is reviewed by hand before it goes anywhere near the archive, so a best guess is worth more than a blank.

Important Note: Do not do multiple entries of the same program. If you flag Super Nova by Big Five once, all Super Nova by Big Five entries will get updated. No need to waste your time flagging each Super Nova

Conquering Everest [Part of ASP SOFTWARE ADVENTURE SERIES 1]MISSING

ASP Software

FEELING ADVENTUROUS? ASP Software Adventure Series 1 THE WHITE BARROWS Program approximately 8K Somewhere amid this maze of burial chambers lurks an Evil Sorcerer whom you need to trap. Trouble is, he's protected by Trolls, Dwarves, Serpents and the occasional Dragon or two! Your magic staff will block the tunnel to prevent him escaping unless, that is, he outwits you. A real brain twister, White Barrows requires both brains and brawn from its players. It's no good just hacking your way through the Barrows and hoping to fall over the Sorcerer. Eventually you'll meet a Dragon, and they don't hack easily! You'll need all your strength and cunning to survive this one for long. THE WHITE BARROWS Only 6.50 all inclusive! CONQUERING EVEREST Program approximately 11K You are in charge of an expedition comprising 18 climbers, 34 Sherpas and 40 Porters. There is food, tents and equipment for all, even the oxygen you'll need as you near the summit. One slight problem, it's all at the BOTTOM of the mountain and you have to get it all up to the TOP! The monsters of this game are avalanches, starvation, storms and, worst of all, bad planning! A real, thinking man's adventure, Everest will test your skills of forward planning to the limit. CONQUERING EVEREST Only 6.50 all inclusive! No SPECIAL EQUIPMENT: None CONQUEST OF CHESTERWOODE TRS-80 by Lun-Shin Yuen and Allan Armstrong Several hundred moons ago, your ancestors migrated north through the dark Forest of Chesterwoode. During their trek, they met up with the dreaded basilisks, scores of worgs, a terrible wurm, and many other dangerous creatures. The legends of the past have been lost, but tales were handed down through word of mouth for generations. In Chesterwoode, the voyagers began to think they would never leave that dark realm, and indeed, Chesterwoode is said by some to be eternal. Eventually, settling upon an area, the leaders of the wandering group surveyed a piece of land and divided it into 63 provinces. But as time passed, war swept through the provinces, and the remaining tyrants who had risen to power over the years, died out and were soon forgotten. Each of the players in CONQUEST OF CHESTERWOODE is a descendant of one of the ancient tyrants. Your goal is to unite the provinces and modernize farming. This is a war game similar to the strategy board variety, right down to the 'hex' layout on your screen. CONQUEST OF CHESTERWOODE is a hybrid language, graphics-oriented game for 2 to 4 players. Truly a superior program, you will find CONQUEST OF CHESTERWOODE a unique and addictive playing experience. TRS-80 16K TAPE Model 1 & 3 TRS-80 32K DISK Model 1 & 3 010-0122 012-0122 $19.95 $20.95

CONSTELLATION - TURN YOUR COMPUTER INTO A TELESCOPE This unique program turns your computer screen into a telescope so that you may view the sky from any point on earth for any time and date in the 20th century. In other words, if you want to know what part of the sky looks like from, say, Calcutta on 12th January 1982, this program will show you. Details of over 40 constellations are contained in the program, together, of course, with the major planets of the solar system, that is to say, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn and, of course, our sun. The only data that the user has to know is the latitude and longitude of the observer's position together with the date and time. The 'telescoping' can be both moved and adjusted for magnification as there are four cursor movements for movement in East/West, up/down directions, together with two commands to zoom in and zoom out. Other ancillary commands include a re-centering display, setting a new cursor position and displaying the stars by constellation or magnitude. Although we have no knowledge of the subject covered by this program, it seems to perform its functions very well and will, no doubt, provide a useful tool to the amateur astronomer and other people interested in the subject.

Construction Cost Management SystemMISSING

D B Software

Construction Cost Management System The Construction Cost Management System consists of job costing integrated with accounts payable, payroll and general ledger. The system accumulates cost by job and cost type and job phase and reports on those costs as compared to established budgets. Projected total costs may be determined either by percentage of completion or by units completed. Job Cost reports include: job master listing, cost summary report, cost analysis by percent complete, cost analysis by units completed, labor cost report and month to date history report. The accounts payable and payroll modules pass cost transactions to the job cost system as well as printing checks and providing basic accounting reports. Both modules provide automatic updating of the general ledger which prints standard financial reports. The system runs on a Model III (or Model I with double density and the DOSPLUS operating system) with full memory and two standard disk drives. Larger disk configurations are supported including the hard disk for the Model III (with DOSPLUS 4.0). The complete system is priced at $575, with the Job Cost alone priced at $350 and each accounting module $75 each. For additional information contact D.B. Students choose one of the five articles to read and then, after reading it, answer questions pertaining to the article. Questions are divided into six categories of comprehension skills: main idea, vocabulary, details, fact or opinion, sequence, and inference. At the end of each run of questions students who score a certain percentage (which may be adjusted by the teacher) may play a challenging arcade-style game or choose to read another article. Student management system holds up to 200 student files. Teacher's guide with each title.<br>1 TRS-80 Diskette, 48K...$39.95<br>1 TRS-80 Diskette, 48K; Backup...$54.95

Contractor Management ProgramMISSING

Dynacomp

CONTRACTOR MANAGEMENT PROGRAM (TRS-80 only) The CONTRACTOR MANAGEMENT PROGRAM (CMP) is a management tool designed to assist general contractors and related businesses in the processes of estimating, planning, scheduling, and controlling of the contracting business. The program has a large menu of functions which provide the user with cost, scheduling, and resource utilization information in a wide variety of formats. In operation, the CMP provides for setting up of four data files containing information on equipment, personnel, materials, and contracted services. Each entry in each file contains information defining the name, site, location, task, function, cost, and scheduling of the item. Employee entries provide for overtime and doubletime considerations. Utilizing the data files, the program provides standard searching and sorting functions, and supports multi-file chain operations. An evaluation command provides the user with a number of options for evaluating cost. The entire file may be processed, or individual entries may be selected and processed. The evaluation command also includes a powerful category evaluation option, which allows the user to figure costs for all unique entries within a category. As an example, a file containing 30 entries for 6 dump trucks, covering 5 different sites and time periods for each truck, would result in the generation of 6 printouts, covering a complete cost evaluation for all entries pertaining to each truck. This command can be performed on a wide variety of categories, providing cost and utilization breakdowns in a large number of convenient formats. CMP also includes a tracking command. This command allows the user to generate specialized data dumps by any data category. As an example, a printout can be generated to provide schedules for each piece of equipment or employee. Or a printout can be made to show activities at each work site, or to show resources assigned to each task. The track command operations on a number of data categories, providing the user with convenient and useful data in a wide range of possible formats. CMP is a user-friendly, menu-driven program which prompts for each required input. Error-trapping is provided to prevent data loss in the event of DISK FULL and similar errors. Line printer output is supported, and is recommended for several of the program functions. Pagination and screen control is included to provide neat, easy-to-read printouts. CMP includes data verification routines for data inputs and provides full data file editing capabilities. Additionally, a useful updating command is included to allow any data category to be rapidly updated without editing the entire item. This function is especially useful in using old data files to create new ones with a minimum of typing. Requires 48K, one disk drive and a printer. Price: $59.95 Diskette

Many programs in 80 Micro and Load 80 are hybrids of Basic and machine language. This is frequently done in games that require a very fast sound routine ('Space Chase,' April 1982, p. 292) or vertical scroller ('Rammer,' August 1982, p. 296). Execution is simply not fast enough in Basic.
