Nearly 30,000 programs, and almost none of them say what kind of program they are. Mark whatever you recognize. Pick as many words as fit — a game that teaches arithmetic is Game, Math, Education — then send the page. Everything is reviewed by hand before it goes anywhere near the archive, so a best guess is worth more than a blank.

SYSDMP - STORE BASIC PROGRAMS IN SYSTEM FORMAT PLUS VARIABLES This is a very useful utility which will save a Basic program to tape in a form which can be accessed by the SYSTEM command. But it goes far beyond that, for it will also save the database being used by the Basic program, that is to say all current values of variables, arrays and strings together with the contents of the Stack. It will also save to tape (optional) the contents of the display at the time of the save. Finally, it saves any resident machine code programs. A Keyboard Debounce program is automatically included. A very important feature is that at the end of the dump to cassette, the computer is returned to the same state that it was in prior to the start of the dump and if the Basic program was running at that time, it will continue from the point at which it was suspended. When the tape is subsequently reloaded using the SYSTEM command, the computer is again restored to the state at which it was in immediately prior to the dump and the Basic program, with its database intact, will continue from the point at which it was originally suspended. If the display contents were included in the dump, the display is completely restored to its original state and even the cursor is reset to its former position. If the display contents were not included in the dump, then after the reload the screen is cleared and the cursor is positioned at the top left-hand corner. The usefulness of this utility is evident from the foregoing description, but one factor which may not be evident is that all System tapes are loaded with a checksum facility which, of course, makes sure that the load was successful. Basic programs do not normally carry out this checksum. It is hard to give a list of the applications of this program as they are so wide, but in general terms the user has the option to stop the running of a program and save everything to tape so that he may return at a later time and be able to pick-up exactly where he left off. One obvious application is the storing of lengthy games or application programs. There is now no excuse for staying up all night in order to complete the running of a particular program! Further applications that come to mind are in the debugging of Basic programs. Quite often a user is part way through debugging a program, but wishes to put the program 'to bed' with the variables intact. This he can now do. SYSDMP is loaded as a System program itself and resides at the top of the memory. It only occupies about 500 bytes. Once loaded it can be called whenever required.

SysGen [Restructure ND2.1]MISSING
SYSGEN This program allows you to restructure NEWDOS 2.1 into a configuration of your choice. Is your disk drive capable of using 77 tracks? Well SYSGEN will change NEWDOS 2.1 into a 77 track DOS. SYSGEN will allow you setup your system so that you can now get at the lower memory addresses you've been kept from copying or examining. SYSGEN will modify NEWDOS 2.1 so that your disk drives can run at one of three speeds, slow (what your running at now), fast (about twice as fast), fastest (seek time is 5 msec). This function is great for people with MPI or Vista disk drives. Why not run them at the speeds they are designed to handle. NOTE: Shugart drives will only go to the fast speed. There are far more features to SYSGEN than can be listed here. SYSGEN is priced at $35.95, and with that price were the only game in town.

Syslink v3 BBSMISSING
Communication Links Software Interphase Inc. announces Syslink Version 3, a bulletin-board software package for the Models III and 4. The software contains three public/semi-private message bases, each capable of storing up to 3,000 messages among 30 subsections. Other standard Syslink features include two-way file transfer with ASCII or XMODEM error-checking protocol, private electronic mail with reply and multiple-send capability, a survey/voting section with statistical analysis, customized terminal settings for each user, and a complete text editor with global search-and-replace and line-editing capabilities. System operator (sysop) features include a detailed caller's log with monitoring of all user activity and complete maintenance of a 999-member user base. The system operator also has complete control over each feature in the system and can deny or enable user access to areas of the network. Syslink costs $125 and requires a minimum of three floppy drives, a Hayes-compatible modem, and NEW-DOS/80 2.0 or 2.5. It supports baud rates of up to 2,400. A printer is optional for printing reports and system status. Current bulletin-board sysops can receive a $25 credit toward the purchase of Syslink by sending their original BBS software disks. This approach enables the user to take advantage of the speed of the language and free himself from the drawbacks which Basic file handling would otherwise impose upon him. In SYSTEM II there are no files as such! Machine language programs are obviously different to Basic programs, but do not be misled into confusing pure machine language with compiled Basic which, although it appears to be machine language, is in fact still subject to the restrictions of the original Basic source code. SYSTEM II requires a great deal of explanation and customers who are interested are urged to request the descriptive brochure, as it is quite impossible to describe the suite in these pages. One final thing we would like to emphasize is that a large number of sales ledgers do not include provision for integral invoicing, although most of them provide for statements. SYSTEM II includes the generation of invoices and statements within the Sales Ledger program. As far as we are aware there is no other suite of programs available for our machines combining the ease of use, sophistication and comprehensiveness of SYSTEM II. MOLYMERX has literally searched the business world for an accounting system which is the very best available and were in fact in the process of having software written for us in COBOL in Australia. Load Machine Language in BASIC SYSTEM to BASIC is a utility package designed to convert machine language code into code that can be loaded and stored from BASIC. The program is designed to bridge the gap between editor/assembler and BASIC. Included with SYSTEM to BASIC is FASTLOADER, a machine language program placed in memory from BASIC. This program takes machine code out of the data item list and rapidly places the machine code into the proper memory location for execution. The program is available for Model I, Level II BASIC or disk users with 16K. SYSTEM to BASIC costs $19.95 for cassette and $24.95 for disk and is available from J.F.
